How To Protect Yourself From Negativity

Over the past few months I’ve noticed an increase in clients complaining about being exposed to and effected by negative energies.

Here are some common symptoms related to this issue:

  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Feeling ‘off’
  • Shallow or Difficult Breathing
  • Sleeplessness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • More susceptible to illness
  • Hypersensitivity to sensations (light, noise, touch, etc.)
  • Restlessness
  • Anger
  • Complaining often

More severe symptoms are:

  • Depression
  • Confusion
  • Memory Loss
  • Word Mix Ups

The source of these negative vibes can be varied. You may not even know where they’re coming from but the most common sources are other people! Bosses and family members are top on the list. Friends and co-workers are next. It could also be a bad energy imprint left by someone or something who was in the space you live, work or drive in. Less common, we find that there is someone or an entity putting a curse around you and/or sending you negative thoughts/energy. Constant exposure to technology like phones and computers can contribute to a congested/negative sense of space also as can TV.

Whatever the source, there are time proven ways to ward off this negative energy. Here are some favorite, simple but effective methods to stay whole and centered amid these negative vibes as  well as to banish them:

  • Grounding

Spring is an easy season for most people to start grounding. It’s easy. Just increase your time outdoors! Hug trees, walk barefoot on grass or sand (any natural substance), walk in the woods, commune with some wild animals and talk with some boulders! See how you feel after a full dose of those activities.  Here are some other ways to ground including crystal healing, yoga poses and essential oil use.

  • Incense/Sage 

Saging your space is called Smudging. The most commonly used herb is white sage but you can use whatever is appealing to you. Palo Santo is also popular. Play around with some different incense fragrances and see what works best in making you feel clear, pure and happy.  My personal favorite is Sandalwood. In addition to treating your spaces I like to sage/incense my own body as well. Ahhh. Feels good.

  • Bells/Sounds

    Tingsha Tibetan Bells

Completing a sound clearing is quick and easy. Get a hold of some bells, a Tibetan Bowl or just a crystal and a tuning fork and make some noise all around your space and your body. Be gone all unwanted and unhelpful presences!

  • Crystals

Place Selenite Wands in each corner of an impure space.

Selenite, Smokey Quartz, Black Tourmaline, Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli are some favorites. When I know I’m going to be dealing with difficult people or people who push my buttons I load myself up with Black Tourmaline in the form of jewelry and also pop some loose crystals in my bra. Over the years this has kept me grounded and less reactive as well as protected so that my energy does not get sapped. I am most grateful for this stone’s protection.

  • Visualization

Sit or lie in a quiet place and take a few deep breaths relaxing your body and mind. Choose a color that you like and/or one that makes you feel safe and protected. It is common to use a clear white or cobalt blue but one of your preference will be best. I am partial to a deep forest green or rich brown for a protective shield! Begin now to see yourself surrounded by a circle or oval of your chosen color. Stay there inside this bubble for 5 minutes or so. You can make the shield hard or soft, moving or stationary. You may be moved to say a prayer or sing. Listen to your higher knowledge as to how to travel through and to end your visualization. Through your day whenever feeling low vibrational energies reignite that color bubble. You can find some guided protective visualizations on line if doing this on your own is too overwhelming.

  • Say No

Yes, just saying, ‘no’ to things/people that give you anxiety or push your buttons can help to keep your energy vibrations clear and high. Like everything else, this gets easier with practice so get started.

  • Plants

Some easy to grow and fairly inexpensive suggestions are: Rosemary, Aloe Vera and Peace Lily. These will all help clear your space and discourage low vibrations from sticking around.

  • Salt

Put a few bowls of sea salt around the space you’d like to clear, use some epsom salts in your bath and/or use a salt lamp.

  • High Frequency Music

You can find others on line.  Using  high frequency music  can  also  help  to  clear  your  space.   Here is one example.

  • Holy Water or Water Infused with Reiki Energy

Sprinkle or spritz it all over your space. I also like to spray it above and in front of me and walk through the mist. Ahh so cleansing and refreshing!

  • Reiki Healing

Come on in for a Reiki Healing. In our session I will use several of the above methods for clearing your physical and energetic body from sapping energies: Smudging, Bells, Essential Oils, Music, Crystals and of course Reiki itself. Recipients report feeling lighter, relaxed, chill, grounded, clear and focused.

One more tip before I leave you to get yourself and your spaces clean. You can carry out these techniques just as they are listed or, if you feel connected to a higher power like God, Angels, Saints, Spirits (maybe a loved one who has passed) or an overall energy source, you may ask for their assistance in your clearing efforts.
