YEAR IN REVIEW

February 14th marks One Year in Reiki of Greater Boston’s Waltham location! It has been fun, educational and healing for me and hopefully for all of my students and clients as well. Last year I moved from a small sublet office in Newton to my very own, larger space in order to provide more comprehensive services for the community.

We began offering a ‘standard’ Reiki Healing session and then added Reiki Healing with Crystals, Reiki with Chakra Balancing, Hatha Yoga Classes, Energy Space Clearing and Meditation & Breath Work Sessions.

Special Events offered this past year included Yoga For Depression, Zentangle Art, Neck & Shoulders Workshop, Psychic Readings, Sound Healing with Tibetan Bowls, Meditation Workshop, etc.

Many (I don’t do #’s!) Blog posts and Newsletters were shared with intentions of sharing love, light and health.

Finally, just this month I have added Life Coaching to my services (First Session Free) and switched out Yoga Classes in favor of Private and Small Group Yoga Sessions. All the changes made have been organic as I try to stay open to what is working and what is not and more importantly what my clients are needing.

My Husband Kicked Me Out Of The House!

This sounds like a juicy story. We’ve been married for 32 years you think he would be flexible!

I’ve been practicing Reiki for over 10 years. For the first ½ of that time I had a yoga studio where I touched my students with this healing energy. Then my son was accepted to an expensive (can you say 60k/year?!), private college which offered him no financial aide and which we just could not turn down so I had to go back to a corporate job where I could earn enough to help put the boy through school. Yes, I know, I am such a great mom.

Since then I’ve been offering Reiki at my home mainly for friends, family and anyone I came across who I thought would benefit from this healing. I was loving this and I was getting busier at being allowed to help more and more people. Then last month my husband put his foot down and said, “No more Lisa! It’s time to get a professional space.” I tried my usual tactics of winning him over and I even had my children try to convince him of the benefits of me working from home. Nope. Nothing. He was in full- blown ‘trial/lawyer mode’ about this. So off I went to find an appropriate space.

First I was in a pout state, then I was nervous and totally fighting the change. I knew I had to stop this resisting and practice what I teach and that was to see this change as a new adventure, one that will bring me closer to my true purpose and in touch with people who will clarify this. So after lots of meditating and Reiki sessions, that mental shift was made and of course all things fell into place!

Did You Know That September Is Suicide Prevention Month?

What do you do when a friend, family member or client mentions thoughts of suicide? Besides panicking I mean. This is not an everyday occurrence in most of our lives but it can happen and when it does I want to be prepared to deal with it in the best way possible. To this end I have signed up along with fellow Reiki Therapists Suicide Prevention Training presented by Newton Cares: Coalition for Suicide Prevention and Mental Health. Join us!

These particular training sessions are 2 hours long and are FREE! The next available session is 10/15/15. There we will learn the QPR (Question Persuade, Refer) method which teaches how to recognize an emergency of this nature and how/where to get a person at risk the help they need.

For those of you not in the Greater Boston area please see American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for similar programs and resources nationally.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month and according to AFSP, “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collects data about mortality in the U.S., including deaths by suicide. In 2013 (the most recent year for which full data are available), 41,149 suicides were reported, making suicide the 10th leading cause of death for Americans In that year, someone in the country died by suicide every 12.8 minutes.” Also for every suicide death, twelve others have been attempted.

Oh my gosh. This is so serious. I am depressing myself here with these statistics and thoughts. I am not joking about it, as I’ve been close to the brink myself. I like this image and quote and will be putting it up in my office:

Our September Reiki Clinic was smashing. We were able to treat 9 clients with all different kinds of symptoms. Only one person was skeptical about Reiki but within 10 minutes of treatment he was sleeping and was a fan after his session.

I treated a lovely woman who said her tummy was upset. During her treatment her belly was talking to me with gurgles and growls then simmered down to a whimper by the end. She was grateful for the treatment and wanted to know more about it because her tummy felt all better.

We had a 92 year old woman with her 88 year old friend treated, another Reiki Professional came for healing also as well as several others who just lied on the table, fully open to receiving whatever they needed at that time. One of these clients said, ‘just give me Reiki- I trust the process’. And we did just that and she was an angel. The angel was from  a yoga studio in Waltham called Shiva Shakti. Check it out! I’m going next week.

Community Reiki Clinics at Brenner Reiki Healing are offered once per month in Newton. This is a time where a group of dedicated Reiki Practitioners comes together to offer healing Reiki services to the community at a greatly reduced rate. These treatment sessions cost $10.00 and last 30 minutes. As you can imagine slots fill up quickly.
